Ask five people where Tatum and Bell is.
You’ll get five answers.
“North Phoenix.” “Basically Scottsdale.” “Near Desert Ridge.” “Paradise Valley-ish?”
And one guy who just points at a Circle K.
Maybe they are all a little right?
But NO, not really.
Remember…
ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS
Consider the source…and their motivation.
The pretentious will call it PV.
A local will call it “Phoenix with a Scottsdale mailing address.”
Others will say that it is “kinda the beginning of Desert Ridge.”
That’s the charm of this corner of the North Valley.
It’s also a problem for your business.
Google doesn’t do “basically.”
It wants facts.
If your Google Business Profile is vague, Google shows someone else.

Why Tatum and Bell Is a Local Search Battleground
This corner sits where several Valley identities overlap.
Phoenix is the city of record.
Scottsdale and the Kierland and Airpark areas sit to the east. Desert Ridge is a short drive north.
Residents here work, shop, eat, and see the dentist across all of it without a second thought.
Here’s the catch.
Your customers search the same way.
They don’t type your name. They type “dentist near me” from a parked car with the AC on full blast.
Google then picks a handful of businesses to show.
Everyone else gets a very quiet phone.
What Customers See Before They Ever Call You
They see your profile first.
Often they never visit your website at all.
The numbers back this up. BrightLocal’s 2026 Local Consumer Review Survey found that 97% of consumers read reviews for local businesses.
A summary of the same survey reports that 41% now always read reviews, and 31% will only use businesses rated 4.5 stars or higher.
In other words, your profile is your storefront.
It’s also your handshake. It’s also the thing a stranger judges you by in about eight seconds.
7 Things Google Looks at Before It Recommends You
Google explains its own local ranking factors in its Business Profile help guide.
It boils down to relevance, distance, and prominence. Moz’s local search ranking factors research points the same way. Here’s what that means for you.
1. Your Name, Address, and Phone Match Everywhere
Your name, address, and phone number should be identical on your profile, website, Facebook, Instagram, and every directory. “Suite 100” in one place and “Ste. 100” in another is how a robot decides you’re two different businesses.
Also read Google’s guidelines for representing your business. Violating them is the fastest way to a suspended profile, and nobody wants that email.
2. The Right Categories
Pick the most accurate primary category. Then add secondary ones that honestly describe what you do. “Business” is not a category.
3. Photos That Prove You Exist
Add your storefront, your entrance, your team, your work, and your interior. Real photos beat stock photos. Post new ones regularly.
4. Reviews, Fresh and Often
Ask every happy customer. Reply to every review, the good and the bad. A stale profile with three reviews from 2022 tells people you’ve either retired or fled the country.
5. Services and Descriptions Written for Humans
Fill out every service. Write your description like you’d explain your business to a neighbor. Skip the keyword soup.
6. Posts, Offers, and Updates
Publish updates a few times a month. Share a tip, a seasonal reminder, or a new service. Activity signals a business that’s alive.
7. A Website That Backs It All Up
Your profile sends people to your site.
If the site is slow.
Or if it is confusing.
Maybet it looks generic AF.
Or maybe resemble a 2014 build.
Then essentially you just paid for the click and lost the customer.
Self-Check: How Does Your Tatum and Bell Profile Stack Up?
Open Google.
Search your business name.
Then answer honestly:
- Does my profile show a clear address and correct hours?
- Do my name, address, and phone match my website and social pages?
- Have I added any new photos in the last 30 days?
- Have I gotten at least 1 new review in the last 30 days?
- Did I reply to my last review?
- Are all my services listed?
- Does my website load fast on a phone?
- Does my site tell visitors exactly how to call or book?
Did you count fewer than six yeses?
If you did, you’re leaving customers on the table.
Probably the kind who were already looking for you.
Even with those fields completed are you positive that are they completed properly? Are they optimized better than your competition? Did you do the research to back it? (We do) Because just completing information does not help.
And believe it or not…strategy, research and patience comes into play here as well.
Why Local Businesses Near Tatum and Bell Struggle Anyway
Most owners here are great at their craft.
They’re not great at fiddling with a Google dashboard at 9 p.m. after a full day.
That’s fair.
So the profile sits half finished. The website stays on its DIY platform. Reviews trickle in when someone remembers. Meanwhile, the competitor three strip malls over keeps showing up first.
It’s not unfair. It’s just a to-do list nobody got to.
